Job Summary

Be responsible for the engineering, construction, and commissioning of the electrical, instrumentation and automation of the CAPEX projects to be implemented in each USA cement operations, also the planning of activities to be executed during the erection of electrical projects, simulation and testing, start-up assistance, and other detailed documentation of PLC & HMI. Must have proven experience in PLC logic programming and HMI systems programming. Must have a solid understanding of Electrical Equipment, Instrumentation, Control Devices, Controllers programming, software development of PLC program processes and HMI configuration. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations at all times and wear proper personal safety equipment while in plant facilities.
  • Participate in the definition process and engineering follow-up of electrical, instrumentation, control and Automation CAPEX projects.
  • Assist in engineering, design, specification and assessment of electrical equipment, and assets.
  • Responsible for the planning of activities with the electrical contractor to be executed during the erection of the electrical, instrumentation, and control systems, including MV & LV Transformers, Switchgears, MCCs, Motors, Grounding System, Lighting & Lightning Systems, PLCs, HMIs, 
  • Analyze electrical, control, instrumentation & Control System failures to find the root cause, during the commissioning phase.
  • Provide Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation technical support to operation and maintenance teams with the topics related to the new electrical installations.
  • Performs investigation of process deviations and anomalies related to Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation hardware and software.
  • Gather and organize all technical documents related with the new electrical installation implemented during the CAPEX projects and make official delivery to the operation.
  • Continuous Update of daily reports
  • Continuous communication with operations and maintenance mechanical/electrical team to improve the coordination of activities during the execution of projects. 
  • Supervise Electrical & Instrumentation contractor Teams to ensure the erection is following the engineering and CEMEX standards.
  • Physically inspect work completed by electricians & contractors to ensure safety and quality. 
  • Physically inspect plant equipment & systems to ensure safety and efficiency. 
  • Ensure work is completed in a timely manner and follow up on the quality of the work.
  • Support and assist with ongoing technical training for employees.
  • Coordinate and consult with the original equipment manufacturers whenever necessary to resolve major electrical issues.
  • Work with the Plant Maintenance Department on major plant modifications requiring the temporary shutdown of the plant. 
  • Advise on technical problems found in equipment manufacturing, tests, facilities and manufacturing of modified parts and components. 
  • Drive resolution of highest impact issues with a strong sense of urgency and integrity.
  • Proven experience in maintenance and engineering of electrical equipment such as low/medium/high voltage distribution systems, switchgears, transformers, MCC and motors. .
  • Proven experience in engineering, specification and design of electrical systems, assets and projects.
  • Excellent communication, team interaction and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as lead/participate in cross-functional teams.
  • Proven experience as a self-starter who effectively manages multiple tasks and achieves results with minimal supervision.
  • Any additional work assigned by Management.
  • This position requires a combination of office work and fieldwork.  This position sometimes requires domestic travel. 
  • Availability during off-hours (laptop and cell phone) is required, including Holidays and Weekends
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical or Automation or Electronics.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the design/build of automation & Instrumentation systems with PLC and HMI (Required).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Electrical Design with MV & LV Equipment (Required).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a cement plant.
  • Proven understanding of electrical regulatory and industrial standards and codes.
  • Proven understanding of control and instrumentation systems in an industrial manufacturing environment.
     

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have programming experience with PLC (Rockwell & Shneider), Troubleshooting Variable speed drivers for AC and DC motors, Transformers, Motors, Generators, Control Systems, Electrical protection of motor in low, medium and high voltage.
  • Must have proven experience in PLC logic programming & HMI programming.
  • Strong knowledge of Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Systems.
  • Strong capability to interpret electrical & Control drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of the cement process.
  • Working knowledge of engineering documentation required for process equipment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Computer Skills in Excel, Power Point, Word, SAP, Autocad,  and database management software.
     

Working Conditions

  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise and working outdoors.
  • Must wear all necessary protective equipment while at the facility.
     

Physical Requirements

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling and climbing to a significant degree.
  • Heavy work-exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, to communicate to employees/visitors as well as perform safely around heavy rolling equipment.
  • Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning and/or pulling of controls.
  • Must pass DOT physical to include back x-ray, hearing test and drug/alcohol screening.
