Job Summary
Responsible for the coordination, support and compliance of comprehensive Health and Safety programs for the cement manufacturing projects organization at a local site level. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Projects Health and Safety Manager and partner with the local projects organization and associated stakeholders to achieve best in class performance in health and safety.
Job Responsibilities
- Work to instill Zero4Life as the fundamental driver to an injury free workplace within the scope of the cement projects organization at a local level.
- Provide technical advice, coaching and guidance on health and safety training programs to address regulatory requirements and site-specific operational and safety concerns.
- Collaborate with CEMEX projects and engineering staff, contractors, and other functions to review design specifications to ensure safety and human factors considerations in all projects.
- Work with DOT, FMCSA, MSHA, OSHA and other pertinent federal and state regulatory agencies to manage regulatory compliance.
- Assist in conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis when incidents occur and ensure corrective actions are put in place to prevent recurrence.
- Consult and guide projects management and contractors to oversee and manage injured employees through the transitional return to work process.
- Participate in Health & Safety Management Systems audits and assist in follow up actions.
- Be accountable for consistent and accurate execution of the Contractor Pre-qualification Process.
- Support the legal and procurement functions in maintaining current safety requirements in relevant contracts.
- Provide visible presence in the field to perform observations and inspections to support construction managers and participate in other site-based activities.
- Prepare and maintain various reports and records to illustrate and communicate H&S performance.
- All other duties as assigned for the safe execution of projects.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in health and safety management for projects and construction, and/or relevant operations experience.
- 4-year degree in engineering, construction, or health and safety-related field preferred.
- Health and safety related certifications (CIH, CSP) or a willingness to pursue these or similar certifications is preferred.
- Experience with contractor management and prequalification programs.
- Experience in dealing with multiple regulatory agencies including OSHA, MSHA, and DOT.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Team oriented with ability to also work independently as a self-starter.
- Experience using MS office products effectively.
- Demonstrated leadership and decision-making ability through performance, assessment and interview process is required.
- Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.
Working Conditions
- Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors
- Must wear protective equipment while at the location
Physical Requirements
- Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently
- Job involves sitting most of the time, but also involves walking or standing for brief periods of time
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment
- Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls
