Job Summary

The tax accountant will utilize business, tax and technology knowledge to contribute to the effectiveness of the department.  The position entails the preparation and maintenance of tax filings, related schedules and workpapers for federal, state, and local income taxes. Assist in the preparation process and analysis of the consolidated income tax provision and the compliance of ASC 740 / IFRS and various other tax compliance filings, issues, and procedures.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the preparation of federal consolidated and state and local income and franchise tax returns and work papers, including state income tax apportionment work papers for separate and unitary filing states.
  • Assist managers with preparation of federal and state tax provisions, as well as other federal and state tax accounting matters to include effective tax rates, accruals, payments and refunds.
  • Prepare and reconcile tax fixed assets.
  • Assist the Senior Manager and Director with federal and state income and franchise tax audits.
  • Assist with federal and state tax planning and restructuring utilizing corporations, LLC’s and partnerships.
  • Research and analyze various federal, state, and local technical tax issues, and prepare supporting memoranda.
  • The candidate will help gather data necessary for federal and state tax incentives and credits.
  • Monitor federal and state tax legislation, court cases, etc. for applicability to the company.
  • Assist with periodic cash flow tax projections.
  • Assist with tax SOX 404 compliance and documentation.
  • Assist with other tax department projects as determined by management.
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’ degree in accounting, finance or related field required
  • CPA and / or Master’s degree preferred
  • 3+ years of professional experience, preferably with a corporate tax department of a large multi-state company or a Tier 1 or Tier 2 public accounting firm
     

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of and proficiency in ASC 740 / IFRS and tax compliance / provision
  • Understanding of federal and state taxes and knowledge of tax regulations
  • Excellent project management, analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic team environment
  • Highly motivated self-starter with ability to multi-task and complete assignments within time constraints and deadlines
  • Professionalism, dependability, integrity, and trustworthiness combined with a cooperative attitude

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with SAP preferred
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters OneSource tax return and provision software, and Thomson Reuters Checkpoint research software preferred
  • Experience with BNA Fixed Asset software preferred
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, cement, concrete, or aggregates industries preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force occasionally
  • The job involves sitting most of the time but also involves walking or standing for brief periods 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors
