Job Summary

The Rail Logistics Analyst is responsible for using various railcar tracking systems to create daily reports, monitor fleet idle time, and actively oversee fleet distribution/utilization.  Will also provide support to update and maintain fleet information in DDCTS/UMLER, communicate with Class I railroads, repair facilities, and resolve logistics issues.  

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with the management of a large railcar fleet of different car types.
  • Communicate with personnel at production plants, distribution terminals, and other locations to ensure adequate rail transportation capacity.  Understand railcar fleet cycle and sizing models.
  • Manage RAILINC administration - OT-57, Rule 107, DDCTS, BRC, Restencils, Deactivations, etc. 
  • Coordinate empty and loaded railcar moves to minimize freight costs, improve cycle times, and reposition units as needed. 
  • Communicate with railcar lessors, builders, and other stakeholders to resolve service issues, invoice discrepancies, payment settlements, and other matters as needed.
  • Develop and manage key rail performance metrics for fleets at an enterprise level.
  • Coordinate with Class I railroads, shortlines, repair shops, and other rail service providers to keep the fleet operating at maximum efficiency.
  • Provide professional analysis and research of rail transportation pricing, routes, and other market factors that have an impact on operations and fleet costs.
  • Enter purchase orders into SAP and manage payment of invoices to different vendors.
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Identify and communicate workplace hazards and take corrective action when/where needed
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Finance, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in Rail Fleet Management, Logistics, Supply Chain and/or Procurement 
  • Knowledge of rail transportation, logistics, and rates
  • Ability to read and interpret railcar contracts and tariff authorities
  • Knowledge of RAILINC rules and fleet management processes
  • Experience working with logistics/freight management tools
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
     

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite especially Excel
  • Experience with SAP and Tableau (Preferable)
  • Must be able to meet strict deadlines and deliverables
  • Must be able to work under pressure 
  •  

Working Conditions

  • Capable of working in an open concept office environment

Physical Requirements

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently
  • Job involves sitting most of the time, but also involves walking or standing for brief periods of time 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors
