Job Summary

The Environmental Manager primarily supports environmental compliance and permitting projects for U.S. Cement Plants. Additional responsibilities may include compliance improvement actions, corrective action tracking, and training across multiple business units. This role also requires collaboration with the following internal departments: Technical, Planning, Projects, Legal, Communications and Operations regarding the development and implementation of permit strategies. This position reports directly to the Corporate Environmental Manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Projects, Planning, Technical, Operations, and consultants on the regulatory requirements for compliance and permitting for the plants.
  • Routinely participate in team meetings and provide updates. Coordinate with the plant Environmental Managers to ensure engagement and to seek their input.
  • Update the Corporate projects tracking and internal tracking tools as needed.
  • Maintain relationships and communications with internal and external shareholders as well as regulatory agencies and industry groups.
  • Facilitate the implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS) at the cement plants. This includes developing and maintaining programs, procedures and tools.
  • Communicate routinely to the internal team the status of permitting projects, compliance issues, corrective actions and implementation.
  • Routinely perform environmental inspections. Inspections are to include reviews of regulatory reporting, record keeping, site walks and EMS review.
  • Promote cross-share learnings and action plans. Including the development, implementation, and cross-check of compliance strategies for key issues.
  • Support the environmental compliance and training programs across multiple business units, as assigned.
  • Assist with regulatory permitting, as directed, for cement plants and terminals. Review draft permits and provide comments. Assist Environmental Managers in developing compliance plans.
  • Propose corporate and site level environmental objectives, targets, and performance indicators, to drive continuous environmental performance improvement across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, chemistry or relevant degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical experience in industrial sector, preferably construction materials, oil & gas or related industry

  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communications skills
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management and project planning and execution skills
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with senior business and government officials
  • Strong research, analytical skills and ability to stay up to date on emerging issues
  • Ability to continuously improve processes

Working Conditions

  • Ability to travel up to 20 - 40%
  • Frequently works long hours and is required to be on call and available on an emergency basis
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment
  • Capability to work extended hours as necessary
  • Ability to work with standard office/computer equipment
  • Capable of working in an open office environment

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting/standing in front of a computer for extended periods of time

Requires ability to climb stairs and walk distances

Requires strict adherence to all safely rules within an office environment and industrial plant locations where PPE is required
