Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Vice President of M&A, the Manager M&A will provide leadership and support on various investment and growth initiatives consistent with Cemex’s overall business and growth strategy in the US. The Manager will be a key member of the company’s M&A department in the US and support the team in managing complex acquisitions and strategic corporate development initiatives.
The primary focus of the position will be to support in the M&A process for value‐add opportunities involving industrial assets or located in strategic markets for Cemex throughout the United States, including offshore targets. Likewise, the Manager M&A may also get involved in and support – if and when needed ‐ larger corporate transactions in coordination with the corporate M&A / Strategic Planning departments based in Global HQ (Monterrey, MX), as well as support other internal periodic activities, such as supporting pipeline updates.
The Manager M&A will partner with and support Cemex’s core businesses to build, develop and implement growth strategies and business objectives while overseeing the analysis and execution of potential transactions (asset acquisitions & divestments). In doing so, the Manager will perform commercial analyses, financial modeling, and coordinate with subject matter experts across the organization. In addition, the position will also partner with senior management to analyze, assess, inform, and execute on all relevant activities to support these transactions.
This position requires a candidate with strong interpersonal and analytical skills, a high degree of maturity, and a proven willingness to accept significant responsibility and manage a challenging workload within a fast‐paced environment. Strong academic credentials and writing skills are essential. The scope of the role includes working with the Cemex US Strategic Planning team to design and provide support for acquisition due diligence. The ideal candidate will be expected to apply critical thinking, ask questions, and challenge assumptions. A strong emphasis will be placed on the ability to master the details while also seeing the ¨big picture¨.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supports origination, design and execution of financial transactions (acquisitions) and strategic projects
- Conducts primary and secondary research on markets, competitors and customers
- Supports and coordinates due diligence process in accordance with Cemex protocols
- Performs complex financial modeling and asset / business evaluation
- In collaboration with M&A team, presents opportunities to senior leaders
- Tracks the overall deal pipeline and strategy, aligned with the Financial Business case for the deal
- Assists with establishing partnerships with external and internal stakeholders (business and support) functions
- Monitors status and quickly resolve issues that may arise throughout the Acquisition process
- Ensures that Cemex will maximize the value of the deal and leverage all synergies for integration
- Collaborates with external parties to help facilitate the M&A process (acquisitions and divestments)
- Develops the business case for potential opportunities
- Coordinates presentations and materials with other business leaders for presentations involving upper management, led by the US CEO, in various recurring settings
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in the areas of Business or Operations concentration, i.e., Finance, Engineering, Economics, etc.) or other applicable degrees MBA, specialized Masters or Advance degree will he highly valued
- 5+ years of M&A transaction experience (Corporate Development, Investment Banking, Private Equity, or Transaction Advisory consulting), including leading cross-functional teams during M&A process
- Proven leadership skills, showcasing independence (a self-starter)
- Successful track record in the development of M&A-related activities
- Demonstrable experience in financial analysis, modelling and due diligence processes
- Ability to identify key drivers and underlying business assumptions (modelling, benchmarking, etc.)
- Experience analyzing / evaluating financial statements and multiple investment opportunities
- Understanding of the industrial sector, including regulatory issues, and competitive trends would be a benefit
