Job Summary

As part of the Corporate Logistics Department, the Logistics Maintenance Manager is responsible for controls systems design, specification, programming, simulation and testing, start-up assistance, and other detailed documentation of PLC & HMI. This position is also responsible for the reliability of the electrical and instrumentation equipment of the Cement Terminals and the execution of a wide range of electrical and automation projects.

  • Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations at all times and wear proper safety equipment while at Cement Terminal 

Electrical & Automation

  • Provides Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation technical support to Terminal Operations and maintenance.
  • Implements software/hardware changes and upgrades, including addition of new equipment in PLC and HMI
  • Manages projects related to design and requirements with automation engineering, commissioning, and performance improvement of automated equipment.
  • Managing electrical requirements for significant projects to budget and timescale
  • Implements modification/change control procedures and protocols.
  • Continuous management of PLC & HMI including programs improvement, tracking & documenting changes, and continuous backups
  • Continuous Update of operation interlock’s
  • Responsible for the reliability of the electrical, instrumentation, and control equipment of theTerminal, including Transformers, Switchgears, MCCs, Motors, Grounding System, Lighting & Lightning Systems, PLCs, HMIs, 
  • Participate in the budgeting process and control of the maintenance cost of electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation equipment 
  • Performs investigation of process deviations and anomalies related to Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation hardware and software.
  • Collect and analyze equipment maintenance histories, investigate failures and damage, and evaluate the effectiveness of preventative maintenance programs. 
  • Coordinate & consult with the original equipment manufacturers whenever necessary to resolve major electrical issues.
  • Assist in engineering, design, specification and assessment of electrical equipment, and assets.
  • Assist in or manage execution and commissioning of expense/capital projects or initiatives for electrical reliability improvements.
  • Identify and resolve long-term or chronic electrical asset concerns.
  • Own and lead the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process for major failures to ensure prevention of re-occurrence.
  • Liaising with Terminal personnel and management to plan electrical requirements prior to execution
  • Management responsibility for the coordination of internal automation and electrical support sources.
  • Compliance to Preliminary Engineering Design Procedures and deliverables
  • Compliance to Detailed Engineering Design Procedures and deliverables


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical or Automation or Electronics
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the design/build/programming of ControlLogix PLC and HMI (Required)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Electrical Design and Maintenance 
  • Must have proven experience in PLC logic programming and HMI systems programming.
  • Must have a solid understanding of Electrical Equipment, Instrumentation, Control Devices, Computer programming, software development to PLC program processes and HMI configuration. 
  • Proven understanding of electrical regulatory and industrial standards and codes
  • Proven understanding of control and instrumentation systems in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience in maintenance and engineering of electrical equipment such as low/medium/high voltage switchgear, transformers, motors, and distribution systems.
  • Proven experience in engineering, specification and design of electrical systems, assets, and projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong PLC and HMI programming skills, PLC (ControlLogix & Modicon) and HMI
  • Computer Skills on Excel, Power Point, Word, SAP, Autocad, Visio, Word
  • Strong knowledge of process control, machine automation, Electrical and Instrumentation Systems
  • Working knowledge of engineering documentation required for process equipment
  • Must be excellent troubleshooter and must stay current on technology
  • Must lead design process improvement projects and lead in-house automation; keep abreast of latest developments in industrial automation technology and introduce them to logistics operations to achieve cost savings and improve productivity
  • Ability to develop a clear and concise testing strategy
  • Passionate about finding defects and helping to resolve them

Working Conditions

  • Occasional exposure to some extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, dust and working outdoors. 
  • Able to work in open office environment and  to work extended hours as necessary
  • Able to participate in required overnight travel as necessary

Physical Requirements

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.   Job involves sitting most of the time, but also involves walking or standing for brief periods of time 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors
