Job Summary

The Manager Sustainability and Social Impact will bring a highly organized approach and structure to ensure focus and alignment with our business units across all Social Impact (SI) pillars and delivery on our commitments. In coordination with cross-functional teams, this role will support Operations and SI leads in building and maintaining strategic relationships with stakeholders - internal and external - that strengthen the Company’s SI strategy to create shared value by promoting or enhancing the well-being and quality of life of local communities, while enhancing the Company’s reputation and supporting business continuity. This position reports directly to the Director of Sustainability & Public Affairs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement a highly organized approach and structure to ensure focus and alignment among business units on sustainability initiatives and Social Impact (SI) pillars and delivery on related commitments.
  • Help coordinate and support implementation of strategic sustainability and community engagement activities in communities around CEMEX facilities and monitor implementation and outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities and support applications for awards recognizing CEMEX sustainability and SI performance.
  • Help manage CEMEX’s institutional relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Support development and monitor community engagement plans and associated budgets, as assigned.
  • Identify and communicate community concerns and opportunities for CEMEX facilities; collaborate with relevant personnel to propose solutions, and participate in implementation of solutions.
  • Engage and coordinate with local management and SI leads and other departments to secure cross-functional collaboration on sustainability and SI strategy and initiatives.
  • Responsible for maintaining U.S. data management system and periodic internal reporting.
  • Prepare materials supporting CEMEX communications regarding sustainability and SI activities in coordination with Corporate and Regional Public Affairs and Communications Teams.
  • Must be willing and able to attend or work events during evening hours and weekends, as needed.
  • Must comply with company safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required (e.g., Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, Public Relations, Social Responsibility)
  • Min. 4 years of technical experience
  • Min. 2 years of experience creating and implementing social projects and programs preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Team player with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement and collaboration (e.g., NGOs, schools, public administration agencies, regulatory authorities, local communities) and public speaking
  • Experience interacting with governmental agencies preferred
  • Knowledge of local realities or willingness to learn them
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Ability to search for allies among key stakeholders
  • Highly organized with a high level of initiative and drive
  • Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information
  • Focus on the implementation of tasks and achievement of set goals
  • Passion for helping and working with people 
  • Good knowledge of the use of MS Office programs (extensive experience with Excel and PowerPoint preferred)
  • Comfortable with information management systems and databases
  • Experienced driver with valid driver’s license

Working Conditions

  • Ability to travel overnight as needed
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment
  • Ability to work with standard office/computer Equipment
  • Capable of working in an open office environment
     

Physical Requirements

  • Requires sitting/standing in front of a computer for extended periods of time
  • Requires strict adherence to all safely rules within an office environment and industrial plant locations where PPE is required
