Job Summary

Manages CEMEX end to end transportation sourcing portfolio utilizing Rail Transportation for the cement business across the US. Also, this role will administrate and negotiate all railcar fleet leases for cement, aggregates and raw materials across the US. The individual will be responsible for inbound and outbound transportation of raw materials and cementitious products. Individual should be able to identify cost saving opportunities, creatively negotiate and generate contracts to assure seamless availability of products to support the company objectives.

Job Responsibilities


  • Lead, generate agenda, and maintain freight lanes negotiations with Class 1 Railroads across regions (Cement and Inbound Raw Materials)
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators regarding freight optimization for cement transportation through railroads
  • Case analysis for Railroads usage vs other modes of transportation

Railcar Leases:

  • Railcar fleet optimization to maximize Cemex US asset utilization
  • Coordination of railcar fleet lease structures with Treasury (financing, Capex)
  • Lease monitoring and payment supervision within Working Capital optimization efforts
  • Management of contracts
  • Optimize Repair and Maintenance of railcar fleet


  • Experienced in Supply Chain / Logistics sourcing (negotiations, requests for proposals, contract management, lease negotiations and management) through all modes of transportation (vessel, barging, railroad, trucking).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, or Supply Chain / Logistics,
  • 7+ years of experience in cement production, specifications, and transportation (where available)
  • 7+ years of experience in Railroads logistics, negotiating freight lanes and railcar leases/purchases, structuring contracts and leases
  • 7+ years in safety regulations Railroad Transportation compliance
  • SAP integrated software advanced level
  • Microsoft Office (Xcel, Power Point, Access) advanced level
  • Logistics optimization modeling software (i.e. Llamasoft or equivalent) advanced level

Working Conditions

  • Eventual travel weekdays or weekends may be required within USA
  • Open office area
  • Person should be able to work extended hours when required

Physical Requirements

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a lesser degree
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.   Job involves sitting most of the time, but also involves walking or standing for brief periods of time
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, to communicate to employees/visitors
