Job Summary

The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for the reliability of the electrical and instrumentation equipment of the plant and for automation and controls systems design, specification, programming, simulation and testing, start-up assistance, and other detailed documentation of PLC & HMI. Must have proven experience in PLC logic programming and HMI systems programming. Automation Engineer must have a solid understanding of computer programming and software development to program processes. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the reliability of the electrical and instrumentation equipment of the plant
  • Participate in the budgeting process and control of the maintenance cost of electrical and instrumentation equipment 
  • Design and maintain the control system of the plant and execute and control project under $500K in the plant
  • Analyze electrical failures finding the root cause of them, reducing or eliminating them
  • Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations at all times and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
  • Provides technical and automation support to operation and maintenance.
  • Performs investigation of process deviations and anomalies related to automation hardware and software.
  • Implements software/hardware changes and upgrades.
  • Manages projects related to design, commissioning, and performance improvement of automated equipment.
  • Implements modification/change control procedures and protocols.
  • Continuous Update of daily reports
  • Continuous Update of operation interlock’s
  • Addition of new equipment in PLC and HMI
  • Perform continuous Backups of PLC & HMI 
  • Continuous communication to operators, operations team, and maintenance mechanical/electrical to improve operation screens and process automation 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the design/build/programming of ControlLogix PLC and HMI.
  • Minimum 5 year of experience working in a cement plant.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must possess experience with PLC, Variable speed drivers for AC and DC motors, Transformers, Motors, Generators, Control Systems, Electrical protection of motor in low, medium and high voltage.
  • Strong PLC and HMI programming skills, PLC (ControlLogix) and HMI
  • Must have proven experience in PLC logic programming & HMI programming
  • Strong knowledge of process control and machine automation
  • Strong knowledge of cement process
  • Working knowledge of engineering documentation required for process equipment
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software
  • Strong communication skills
  • Working Conditions
  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise and working outdoors
  • Must wear all necessary protective equipment while at the location

Physical Requirements

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling and climbing to a significant degree
  • Heavy work-exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment
  • Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning and/or pulling of controls
  • Must pass DOT physical to include back x-ray, hearing test and drug/alcohol screening.
