Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Aggregate Projects in USA, the Senior Project Engineer candidate will be responsible for providing the technical support to operations to optimize quality, reliability and operating cost in our aggregate operations. This includes implementation and monitoring of SOP's and best practice design standards for all projects in all facilities while conforming to Cemex continuous improvement initiatives.  Additionally, the Project Engineer is a specialist service position where he/she is required to undertake engineering investigations and design on a project by project basis, to meet the specific situation requirements and project goals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Understand, demonstrate, and promote the Company safety culture through personal engagement and implementation of local and regional health and safety objectives, championing local and regional safety initiatives and working safely at all times. Strict compliance and commitment to the company’s health and safety rules including a commitment to Zero4Life. 
  • Ensuring all necessary health and safety regulations are complied with by subcontractors and other external services on sites.
  • Assessing the application and functionality of processes and equipment.
  • Capital expansion (designing, installing and commissioning new production units and trouble-shooting existing lines).
  • Utilize defined Cemex Engineering Procedures and Standards in the execution of major renovation, process improvement and capital expenditure projects.
  • Managing projects within budget and time constraints. Development of concepts, process models, process analysis, Work Breakdown Structures, bid documents, and complete bid packages for all projects assigned.
  • Improving efficiency across the entire operation (optimum levels and outputs).
  • Provide engineering leadership and assistance to operations and maintenance including; troubleshooting, evaluation of equipment failures, and technical. 
  • Collaborating with operating personnel, plant management and senior management to plan projects prior to execution.
  • Reporting Requirements including:
  • Weekly Engineering Report to Manager
  • Monthly ppt presentation to Executive Committee
  • Paper and electronic documentation of all relevant project data
  • 50% Nationwide travel to support the needs of the business
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Qualifications

  • The Engineer must have a minimum of BS in Civil or Mechanical Engineering; 15 plus years field experience in aggregate plant design and construction
  • The Engineer should have a fundamental knowledge of soil mechanics, drainage engineering, material process flow and sound practices in civil engineering works
  • The Engineer should have formal and practical educational experience in aggregate plant process layout, process analysis, mass flow analysis, process optimization, engineering a rough order of magnitude (ROM) estimate, work scope development, project bid packaging, pre-bid planning & execution, bid review and analysis, project scheduling and construction management implementation techniques.
  • Weighted experience in aggregates manufacturing and processing experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
     

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in the following software applications:
  • All Microsoft Windows and Office Products, (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
  • Project Scheduling (MS Projects preferred)
  • AutoCAD 3D Modeling and Design of Aggregate Processing Plants
  • Agg Flow Process Modeling and Mass Balance of water and solids
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • GIS experience a plus
     

Working Conditions

  • Capability to work extended hours as necessary
  • Ability to participate in required overnight travel as necessary
  • Some exposure to dust, noise and extreme temperature
     

Physical Requirements

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently Job involves sitting most of the time, but also involves walking or standing for brief periods of time 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors.
