Job Summary

The Quality Control Director designs, plans, and implements quality control programs designed to ensure products meet and/or exceed the required quality and technical standards (DOT, ASTM, ACI, Local Govt.) within the region. The Quality Control Director oversees a team to provide expert technical support to all area plants, quarries, job sites, and customers (internal and external). The ideal candidate has a diverse background covering cement, ready mix concrete, aggregate, and admixtures. This background will enable the Quality Control Director to work with the different business units to meet the objectives of the region, and organization overall.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides Operational Quality Control Management and leadership to ensure an efficient and reliable data-driven program is in place which ensures a high degree of quality and consistency.
  • Builds a Quality Assurance / Quality Control Program which develops procedures for quality control testing, data capturing standards, customer complaint investigation process, audit compliance, working with a customer and independent labs) 
  • Coordinates preparation, unification and/or standardization of all Quality Control policies, procedures, documentation, databases, and forms among all regions and plants.
  • Evaluates facility practices and implements changes as necessary to comply with the Company’s quality control program and industry standards.
  • Works closely with the site Quality Control Managers, technicians, corporate and plant management, supervisory staff, and employees at all levels to maximize desirable yield while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards, and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product
  • Formulates and maintains quality control objectives 
  • Coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other managers to maximize product reliability and minimize costs 
  • Directs workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products
  • Plans, promotes, and organizes training activities related to product, quality, and reliability
  • Must comply with company safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
  • Investigates and adjusts customer complaints regarding quality in order to maintain customer relations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science or related field; Minimum ten years' experience in ready mix concrete and aggregate QA/QC management or equivalent combination of education and experience. Aggregate or industrial mineral mining experience preferred.
  • Professional certifications ACI, NRMCA Concrete Technologist Level 2-4, TxDOT, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate at all levels of organizations (internal and external).
  • Proficient computer skills and experience with SAP, M.S. Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Command Alkon, in addition to QC software (Stonemont, Quadrel).
  • Must possess comprehensive knowledge of products and processes and perform technical and complex testing and analysis. 

Working Conditions

  • Must work independently and be highly organized.
  • Normal office/laboratory environment; however, time will be spent in the manufacturing facilities and the field at customer job sites. Extended hours of standing and walking required.
  • Noise levels are typical of a manufacturing/mining environment.
  • Must be able to spend long hours on the computer entering data, which requires attention to detail and high accuracy levels.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required regularly, including hard hat, hearing protection, eye protection, safety-toed boots, protective clothing, gloves, and other PPE as necessary. The ability to quickly and securely fit a respirator at some jobsite is required. 
  • Required to support urgent matters as necessary outside of regular operating hours and available 24/7.
  • Travel to remote facilities and/or plants is required, approximately 20% expected.

The expected base compensation for this position ranges from $102200.00 to $130600.00 depending on, but not limited to, market location, job-related knowledge, skill sets, experience, and education
