Job Summary

To work under supervision and independently, operate various pieces of heavy-duty equipment required to load, move, strip excavate raw aggregate materials as directed. Have the capacity to perform in Operator II, Operator I, and Labor / Conveyorman capacities. Cemex supervision reserves the right to disqualify any Operator III who does not improve their skill level in a timely manner or has documented instances of poor work performance or receive repeat disciplinary actions. This is safety-sensitive positions and cannot work under the influence of drugs or alcohol which would pose an imminent safety or health threat with irremediable consequences.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ability to perform Labor and Operator I and II duties.
  • Ability to efficiently operate all heavy-duty equipment.
  • Possess aggregate, open pit mining experience.
  • Understand process-flow of aggregate and mining operations, quality control of materials, and 
  • stockpile management.
  • Make routine inspections and written reports of any equipment he/she may be operating.
  • Inspect, fuel, and lubricate, make minor adjustments, and assist in minor repairs to equipment.
  • Recognize and report any unsafe conditions in work area.
  • Operate necessary heavy-duty equipment pertaining to aggregate operations.
  • Move or transport material.
  • Have the skills and ability to establish and maintain roadways, benches, stripping, excavating, etc. 
  • Ability to comprehend all functions of GPS instrumentation.
  • Make written reports as required.
  • Recognize and report any unsafe conditions in work area.
  • Perform such cleanup work as is necessary to keep department clean, orderly, and safe.
  • Adhere to all Cemex, MSHA, and OSHA rules and regulations always and wear proper safety equipment on plant grounds.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • The Operator III can be asked to perform the following below job duties at any time:
    • Operator II.
    • Operator I.
    • Laborer / Conveyorman.
  • Must be able to direct and instruct work crews and instruct contractors as needed. Act as a duly constituted authority.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL A or B)
  • Be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Acceptable CSA - MVR
  • No DUI’s or DWI’s in the last 5 years, no more than 3 moving violations in the previous 3 years
  • High school diploma, preferred - Bilingual a plus
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Commensurate with education. Able to communicate verbally in clear manner.
  • Commensurate with education, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, area, and volume.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be able to operate Front-end loaders, large tracked equipment, hand tools, GPS instrumentation, and all other equipment in the pit or crushing systems as directed by the Plant 
  • Materials and Parts Processed or Handled:
    • Raw materials such as limestone, alvic, shale, silica, overburden, aggregate materials, waste etc.
  • Must be able to perform duties with minimal supervision, and able to direct and instruct work crews. Able to understand, interpret, and execute with exactness, instructions given in both verbal and written form. Must be physically able to perform the required duties properly and efficiently. 
  • Able to recognize potentially hazardous situations, understand instructions given by supervisor, possess common sense.

Working Conditions

  • Required to work scheduled and unscheduled hours, which could include 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift. May be required to be designated as night / weekend call out. 
  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, which necessitates the wearing of a respirator, and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree 
  • Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors
  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
  • Heavy Work-Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment  
  • Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls
  • Must pass DOT physical to include back x-ray, hearing test and drug/alcohol screen

The expected base compensation for this position ranges from $26 to $32.80 per hour, depending on, but not limited to, market location, job-related knowledge, skill sets, experience, and education
