Job Summary
ABOUT THE JOB
We’re looking for a detail-oriented and safety-focused Quality Control Technician I to join our team. In this entry-level role, you will inspect production materials, prepare samples, and perform routine and special testing to verify that products meet required quality standards and conform to applicable specifications.
This position supports quality control efforts before, during, and after production, as well as at customer sites. The role also maintains accurate technical records, analyzes quality data using established procedures, and assists with troubleshooting to help ensure product consistency and customer satisfaction.
Job Responsibilities
As a Quality Control Technician I at CEMEX, your responsibilities will include:
- Verify that products conform to quality control specifications and applicable standards.
- Select products for testing at specified stages of the production process and evaluate quality and performance characteristics.
- Collect, weigh, record, and test aggregate and other construction material samples using a variety of equipment and devices.
- Perform CALTRANS and ASTM testing in the Quality Control Labs.
- Conduct testing accurately and communicate results to the QC Supervisor and Operations while properly documenting findings in the database.
- Record, evaluate, and analyze data using established statistical quality control procedures.
- Troubleshoot problems and review basic product specifications.
- Visually inspect stockpiles at material sources and truck loads at batch plants, plant sites, and jobsites.
- Conduct testing and assist in plant calibrations to help ensure product quality.
- Perform work according to specification sheets and forward information to supervisors as needed.
- Perform necessary testing on pit material, production material, shipping material, and other projects.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition, and direct clean-up work as necessary.
Meet or exceed company safety standards.
Qualifications
- 4 years in a similar industry preferred
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Licensing
- Valid driver’s license required.
Certification
- ACI, CALTRANS or ASTM testing knowledge or exposure preferred.
Experience
- 0 to 2 years of laboratory testing experience in aggregate materials, ready-mix concrete, and asphalt pavement..
- Prior training or experience in the materials testing field with demonstrated proficiency in basic quality control duties preferred.

- Strong verbal communication skills for working with plant production personnel, plant managers, contractor personnel, and agency representatives.

- Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong planning, organization, and root-cause problem-solving skills.
- Basic product knowledge or ability to learn CEMEX products, services, and applications.

Working Conditions
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environment
- Work is performed in plant, laboratory, field, and customer site environments.
- Exposure to construction site hazards, dust, noise, hazardous materials, and extreme temperatures is expected.
- Personal protective equipment must be worn in the field, including protection against noise, dust, and hazardous materials.
Work Schedule
- May require varying hours based on production schedules, testing needs, and project demands.
- Overtime or extended hours may be required as business needs dictate.
Work Location
- This position is required to be performed in person at assigned plants, laboratories, and field locations.
- Remote work is not available for this role.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, turning, climbing to a significant degree, and/or pulling of controls
- Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment
Physical
- Long periods of standing and/or walking required.
- Ability to lift and transport sample buckets, bags, and other testing materials.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
