Job Summary

The Quality Engineer will provide assistance in the areas of cement quality assurance, grinding aids development, quality management systems, analyze product data and provide proactive feedback to the quality assurance and technical services teams. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Comply with CEMEX Health & Safety Management System and encourage co-workers to conform to the safety policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of weekly quality trend reports for the cements produced in different plants.
  • Comprehend quality trend data and identify potential issues that could cause noncompliance with the specifications or cause field related issues and alert the technical services manager and sales managers. 
  • Assist CEMEX admixtures with grinding aids development, developing lab experiments, conducting plant trials, and documenting the data to fully evaluate the product performance.
  • Track the grinding aid dosage, consumption at different plants and help forecast raw material demand for the admixture plants. 
  • Utilize the institutional CEMEX software to gather relevant information and compile information for field Quality Index KPI.
  • Assist with the development of Environmental Product Declaration’s (EPDs) as required by upper management. 
  • Collaborate with the CEMEX Technical Center (CTC) to troubleshoot cement and grinding aid performance and prepare reports for the different stakeholders. 
  • Assist Technical services managers with concrete testing and product evaluation in the field. 
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Chemical Engineering
  • 2-4 years of experience in the Building materials industry. Experience in the cement manufacturing, construction chemicals industries is preferred 
     

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Technical knowledge of building materials and construction concepts
  • Cement manufacturing process, quality control
  • Concrete technology, construction chemicals
  • Interpersonal skills including conflict resolution
  • Project management
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Computer skills: MS Office, Power BI, Statistical Analysis
     

Working Conditions

  • Capable of working in an office environment or a laboratory. 

Physical Requirements

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear to communicate with employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment
  • Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls
