Job Description

The Public Affairs Manager (Advocacy) develops and implements strategies for advancing advocacy and public policy goals. Identifies and monitors global and regional legislative activities, industry initiatives, and other policy and advocacy issues that may affect the company.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assists the Global Director and Region Public Affairs teams with advancing company advocacy and legislative agenda items to influence policy outcomes aligned with the company’s priorities at the global, regional, and local levels.
  • Sources, monitors, and circulates proposed legislation that could impact the company or industry’s operations and elevates feedback to the appropriate parties.
  • Prepares reports and briefings for the Global Public Affairs and Region Public Affairs teams.
  • Attends/participates in global-level meetings, hearings, and/or briefings on behalf of the company and advises leadership on the results and potential opportunities and/or ramifications.
  • Works in collaboration with Region Public Affairs teams and industry/ governmental/NGO/multilateral associations and bodies to coordinate and advance advocacy and legislative priorities on behalf of the company and the industry.
  • Develops and supports maintenance of relationships with government officials, legislators, and industry/regulatory agencies.
  • Works in collaboration with other Public Affairs Manager(s) to continually refine and execute company’s global advocacy strategy.
  • Participates in conferences, trade shows, client and/or industry meetings as needed.

Qualifications

  • Fluent in Spanish and English (speaking and writing proficiencies)
  • Bachelor’s degree in public affairs, international affairs, government affairs, journalism, marketing, communications, public relations or public policy; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in government relations, industry relations, or policy/advocacy development, with corporate experience preferred.
  • Experience working across a matrix organization in a global environment is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Exceptional relationship development and management skills.
  • Exceptional writing/proofreading skills with ability to adapt tone for various audiences/formats (speeches, memos, general inquiries, legislative briefings, etc.).
  • Ability to demonstrate effective public speaking and presentation skills in front of a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to plan and organize integrated legislative and stakeholder awareness campaigns.
  • Self-starter with strong initiative, diplomacy, and the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders and members of the public.
  • Ability to build a strong network of subject matter experts across the company.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
