Job Summary

Oversee and manage, in coordination with Plant Management personnel, all aspects of the CEMEX Southwest Region Aggregates fixed asset plant performance including safety, production, maintenance, and costs. Analyze and manage operational efficiency to maximize plant productivity and reduce costs. Manage fixed asset maintenance program to include establishing and monitoring preventative maintenance plans and maintenance best practices. In coordination with Plant Management and Planning, assist in developing and implementing ongoing, five-year CAPEX plans for fixed plant components. Develop and prepare plans which will increase plant availability, efficiency, increase tons/hour throughput, and reduce cost. Maintain positive working relationship with all Plant Management personnel to plan and coordinate plant changes, upgrades, and redesign. In coordination with Project Manager, implement and manage plant upgrades and component replacements. Coordinate with VP of Aggregates

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of all employees, visitors, and contractors and promote a culture of Zero4Life .
  • Ensure that all machines and personnel are working in a safe manner and that all operating and maintenance policies, rules, and procedures are aligned with Zero4Life.
  • Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations at all times.
  • Establish, track, and manage plant performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPI’s) for all plants. Work with Plant Management personnel to address any shortfalls in plant performance. 
  • Establish strong preventative maintenance plans for each plant and establish best practices for maintenance procedures. Assist with Plant Management to develop Standard Work Elements (SWE’s) for routine and critical maintenance procedures. 
  • Schedule and perform field visits to each plant periodically to review plant safety, efficiency, and productivity to identify bottlenecks, choke points, inefficiencies, and opportunities. 
  • Review maintenance costs and identify areas to reduce/optimize maintenance expense. Evaluate critical plant components including crushers, screens, pumps, and conveyors to identify components which lead to higher costs and/or downtime.
  • In coordination with the Region Management, Operations, and Planning, develop comprehensive plans to upgrade/improve plants including evaluation of plant processing equipment, component age, expense, and desired throughput capacity. 
  • Develop and maintain Aggflow diagrams for all plants.
  • Work with Plant Management to develop production and maintenance scheduling plan to maximize plant throughput and availability. 
  • Assist in preparation of annual 5-year fixed asset CAPEX plan for fixed plant assets.
  • Assist in scoping and developing plants and fixed asset components for greenfield development projects
  • Develop and manage relationships with key contractors, suppliers, vendors to ensure high-performance of contractor work
  • Evaluate and manage inventory of critical component spares
  • Manage contract with dragline contractor to ensure contract performance and compliance
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management
     

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in mining operations with experience in operations and maintenance 
  • Knowledge of aggregate plant equipment including a robust understanding of critical components including crushers, screens, conveyors, and pumps
  • Experience with electrical, including electrical motors, preferred
  • Previous welding and fabrication experience preferred
  • Previous team leadership experience preferred
  • Four-year college degree with engineering background preferred; relevant experience and demonstrated management skills may be accepted in-lieu of degree
     

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to present technical information and data to technical and non-technical audiences in a clear and concise manner with excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Proficient in Excel, MS Project, Google Earth & PowerPoint
  • Experience with Aggflow preferred
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at multiple sites simultaneously with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills
  • Must be able to clearly speak and write in English
  • Strong networking ability
  • Ability to work independently and lead in a team environment
     

Working Conditions

  • Capability to work extended hours as necessary
  • Ability to work with standard office/computer equipment
  • At times, requires working in hot, dusty, or wet conditions with exposure to loud noises
  • 30-40% travel may be required
     

Physical Requirements

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, climbing, and pulling to a significant degree
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently
  • Involves office and outside field activities, including walking or standing for extended periods of time
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors
