Job Summary

Promote, facilitate, and manage Safety as the first core value.  Work to foster an environment in which all employees work towards a goal of Zero 4 Life.  This position is responsible for the safe management of the Transportation Operations and delivery of product and managing all aspects of the business in the Region as assigned.  This includes but not limited to leading employees, managing transportation assets, costs, third party carriers and brokers.  The General Manager is responsible for fostering teamwork, having open communications and cooperation across all functional teams and regions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of safety and ensure 100% compliance 
  • Meet or exceed company safety standards
  • Actively participate in management and safety meetings
  • Adhere to all CEMEX and O.S.H.A. rules and regulations at all times and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
  • Plan, develop and implement strategies to increase driver recruiting and retention efforts
  • Responsible for process improvements
  • Works very closely with internal customers to develop new business and grow existing accounts
  • Manage the P&L for the Transportation Operations for region assigned
  • Manage growth of fleet and brokerage to meet customer demands for the region
  • Develop a strong working relationship with driver, internal customers and suppliers
  • May serve as member of executive committees on special studies
  • Prepare all written weekly, monthly and budgetary reports
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management

Qualifications

  • 7 years' experience in a Transportation related field 
  • 5 years in a supervisory role 
  • Bachelor’s Degree; preferably in Engineering or Business

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be committed to Zero4Life
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written with the ability to speak in front of large groups
  • Highly motivated and innovative, not afraid of being challenged
  • Well organized and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Must be a self-starter and a problem-solver
  • Experience in Budget and P&L, along with contract negotiations
  • Working knowledge of trucking industry (interstate a plus)
  • SAP and Loadmaster knowledge (preferred)
  • Able to work extended hours as necessary.

  • Capability to work extended hours as necessary

  • Capable of working in an open office environment
  • Ability to participate in required overnight travel as necessary

Physical Requirements

  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment
