Job Summary

 

ABOUT THE JOB

As a Lead Mechanic at Cemex, you will be responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on a variety of mobile equipment, both in company shops and on public roadways. This role focuses on maximizing equipment availability through efficient, proactive repair and preventative maintenance programs. Additionally, the Lead Mechanic serves as a key liaison between the shop and Terminal Operations, working closely with Terminal Management to establish and manage maintenance priorities.

Job Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO

  • Diagnose electrical problems, perform mechanical repairs, maintenance on equipment (trailers, Moffetts, tires, brakes, suspension)
  • Operate and inspect equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, electronics, and other components of trucks and trailers.
  • Remove components for repair or replacement (injectors, starters, water pumps, radiators, brakes, electrical systems)
  • Routine preventative maintenance: lubricating, oil changes, failure analysis.
  • Routine brake inspections/adjustments on commercial vehicles, following Federal DOT requirements.
  • Communicate for adherence to preventative policies and practices.
  • Create work orders and purchase requisitions for repairs and services.
  • Input daily repair reports into a software-based tracking program.
  • Coordinate to review Pre-Trip truck inspections.
  • Use of hand and power tools, cutting torches, and welding equipment.
  • Order parts from approved vendors and drive company pickup/repair truck to pick up parts.
  • Operate fixed and mobile equipment.
  • May assist in the maintenance and repair of fixed equipment.
  • Adhere to all CEMEX and OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Wear safety equipment and meet safety standards.
  • Coordinate with Terminal Management and Transport Fleet Maintenance Management to determine priorities.
  • Monitor shop inventory, tools, and equipment, alerting to challenges and collaborating on effective solutions.
  • Assist in training new hires on job requirements, tools, equipment, processes, systems and safety culture.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

To succeed in this role, you should bring:

  • Experience & Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred) with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Tools and Equipment: Must have own tools up to 1 ¼”.
  • Language Proficiency: Bilingual is a plus; must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Professionalism: Demonstrates a professional demeanor with established company and business acumen.
  • Leadership: Willingness to lead by example and motivate teammates.
  • Communication: Ability to disseminate information effectively and inspire team collaboration.

Working Conditions

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Safety First: Must wear proper protective equipment (PPE) while in the shop and on plant grounds.
  • Dynamic Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme conditions such as heat and noise, along with potential hazards associated with working on heavy machinery.

Physical Requirements

Requires significant physical activity, including walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing.

  • Ability to exert 50–100 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Ability to exert 25–50 pounds of force frequently.
  • Ability to exert 10–20 pounds of force continuously.
  • Must be able to perform all job functions, including, but not limited to, pushing, turning, and pulling controls
